Born in Urbana, OH Pete Dye is widely considered one of the most influential golf course architects of the post 1960 era. Taking an interest in the game at an early age, young Pete became a keen player and won a number of amateur tournaments. By his mid 30s the champion player's interests had turned from playing more to golf course design.
Leaving a successful career in the insurance industry Dye set out on his own to make his mark in golf course architecture. His wife Alice partnered with him and together they became the first couple of golf course design.
Among the many style contributions he has brought to golf course design Pete Dye's is probably most well known for introducing the use of railroad ties for holding bunkers and greens. Some of the most famous Pete Dye courses include Crooked Stick Golf Club, The Golf Club, TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course, The Ocean Course and Whistling Straits.
