George Crump was a Philadelphia hotelier who has but one golf course layout to his credit - Pine Valley Golf Club. Once referred to as "Crump's Folly", Pine Valley is now widely considered one of the best, if not THE best, golf course in the world.
Having never designed a golf course before Crump wisely consulted with nearly all the major architects of the day for their ideas and opinions as he toiled through years of construction. Sadly, Crump died in 1918 never having seen his masterpiece completed. The four holes unfinished at the time of his death were completed by other architects with Crump's design style remaining uncompromised though the end.
Although he has but one course to his credit, George Crump's contribution to golf and golf course architecture will endure as long as the game is played.
